God is a God of mercy and grace! This is at the very heart of what we believe at Wausau Alliance Church. God has created us to enjoy a perfect relationship with Him. In fact the Bible teaches that we were created in God’s image and likeness. No matter our life circumstances or who we are, we were all created in God’s image. Thus we are very unique in God’s eyes.
Unfortunately, we all fall short of perfection. Each of us deals with inadequacies and imperfections that render us completely unable to live according to God’s standards. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Because we are sinners we live in disobedience and rebellion against God! It is only through God’s mercy that our relationship with him can be changed.
God’s mercy is shown in that while we deserve punishment, God chose not to bring punishment, but instead makes his grace available to us. There is nothing that we can do to deserve God’s grace! It is a free gift to those who would believe! God’s grace is given to us in the form of His Son Jesus Christ!
God sent his Son to provide a means for us to be forgiven; to receive reconciliation, redemption, and eternal life! There is no other way to obtain forgiveness of our sins. It is only through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that our sinful state before God can be changed. If we believe with our hearts that Jesus is God’s Son, that he lived a perfect life, and that he came to take on our sin, and if we confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord, we will be saved (Romans 10:9).
The Christian Life is a response! It is a response to the mercy and grace of God perfectly revealed in Jesus Christ. The Christian life is an act of continual worship because we have been adopted into God’s family through Christ! We were once objects of wrath, but are now objects of God’s mercy.
The life that is lived for God strives to live in obedience to God’s Word. We are to “go therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). We are to count the cost as we follow Christ as his disciples living as the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Luke 14:24-35). We are to demonstrate our belief in Jesus Christ by loving others above ourselves. As Christians, our faith is demonstrated by the fruit of our lives produce.
What an amazing truth! God loves us so much that he would send his Son to die for our sins, that we might have life in Him. Praise God for his indescribable gift!
